I'm thinking about giving up on NaNoWriMo. I've only managed two writing sessions so far with a grand total of 557 words. I guess I'll give myself at least through the weekend to think about what I want to get out of it, and also to see if I manage to do any more writing. I would like to do some more writing at some point, but I'm not sure a novel is what I want to do. My attention span for writing fiction seems to fit better with short stories. It might be interesting to attempt to write a non-fiction book, which is something I've thought about on occasion, likely something to do with games.

I never understood why NaNoWriMo was in November. It just seems like a bad month choice. Why not January, when the holidays are done and people have more free time? Is November National Writing Month or something?

I've wondered that too. What about February or March, not filled with holidays or recovering from holidays? Plus people in northern climes are more likely to have lots of time they'd rather be inside :-).

Apparently the first year they held it in July, but they moved it to November to "take more advantage of the miserable weather." And, well, NaNoWriMo does stand for "National Novel Writing Month," so, yes, November is National Novel Writing Month, although not, as far as I know, blessed officially by the government.
