I've been watching Jeremiah via Netflix recently. It's a Showtime series based on a graphic novel, and it stars Luke Perry and Malcolm-Jamal Warner. The premise is that some kind of super plague wiped out everyone except those who hadn't yet reached puberty. It's now 15 years later, and people are trying to pull things together.

I'm not going to try for a full review, but I do want to note one thing. In an episode last night, they brought out the fact that the plague needs skin-to-skin contact to travel. Now, this may actually make sense, but to me it seems that something that's not airborne would not, in fact, take out the entire world (minus the children (let's forget about the fact that this plague doesn't affect children)). Am I totally off base here?

I'll just add that I'm enjoying the show overall. It doesn't hurt that this is on Showtime and is thus required to show naked breasts. Got a look at Malcolm-Jamal Warner's naked top last night, too, and I just have to say that that man is buff. (Luke Perry's naked top is not anything to speak of.)

Depends how long it's contagious before it shows symptoms, I think ... otherwise very easy to quarentine, I'd've thought. It'd be useful if the initial symptoms were easily confused with something innocuous, too. It would also help if it survived for a while outside the body (ie on door handles/money etc), but not too long as otherwise your pre-puberty population would die on onset of puberty.

I assume there are enough people out there who are careful about skin-to-skin contact that some adults would be left. T

I saw a bit of Jeremiah. I didn't find it particularly interesting.

Funny though, I don't recall naked breasts.

I never did get the whole Luke Perry fascination.

this sounds very much like some short story (I think) I read w/in the last year or so, where people have been frozen - physically, anyway, because mental maturity still seems to happen, to certain degrees - at whatever age they were when some sorta plague hit, because aging would otherwise be really terrible. So society is really grouped into different strata by age, with a few people opposed to freezing their kids, who then grow up like people used to do. Damn, I wish I could remember who the author was! Maybe Niven? I read a bunch of Niven recently.

ANd it's really amusing to see you commenting on men's "naked tops." I think it's that phrase: "naked top." Try "bare chest." It's less ridicule-inspiring ;)
