Icelandic
I went to the library and got a book on Icelandic. It seems to have been written for linguists. The first thing it talks about is noun cases. Really, that's not the way to get me excited about learning a language. Unfortunately, the library doesn't have a wide selection of books on learning Icelandic.

No, I haven't definitely decided to go to Iceland, but I'm thinking about it more.

Have you read John McPhee's The Control of Nature? One of the sections is about an attempt to control volcanic flow in Iceland. He spends a lot of time putting things into context and it definitely got me much more interested in visiting the place.

(If you want to read it (the other parts are great, too), I can lend it to you.)
