Watched a free screening of Vanity Fair last night. I enjoyed it. Good cast, I thought.

IMDb provides some interesting tidbits. It was dramatized several times in the early 20th century. It has been made into a mini-series 3 times (1967, 1987, 1998). Also interesting is that Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (George), who was in Bend It Like Beckham, is playing Schmendrick in an upcoming (in pre-production, scheduled to come out Christmas 2006) remake of The Last Unicorn, with Christopher Lee (Count Dooku) as King Haggard, Mia Farrow as Molly, and Angela Lansbury as Mommy Fortuna. It doesn't say, so I assume this is live-action instead of animated.

Today I finish up New Genre editing. We're starting at 3:00 and going until we're done, which will likely be somewhere around 10:00. Maybe earlier, since there are some shorter stories. We'll see. Looking forward to it, but it's hard to get too excited. I'm pretty tired, since I stayed up last night to finish Doomsday Book, which was excellent all the way to the end. I had a bit of a dream just before coming fully awake that involved the book. I think I'm going to give this book a few days to sit and stew in my mind before i try to start something else.

Besides being tired, and perhaps contributing to it, my allergies are in full swing today. I need to be productive, though. We'll see what happens.

Is The Last Unicorn (the animated one) a good movie?
(Unsurprisingly, it's yet another of the ones I haven't seen.)

It's enjoyable. The music is pretty cheesy, though.

anglea lansbury will make a fantabulous mommy fortuna.
however, can't you find something less embarassing to attribute to christopher lee? (i can say that safely since StY is still sleeping and can't pitch a fit about attack of the clowns being the BEST MOVIE EVER!!!)

I agree that Angela Lansbury will be an excellent Mommy Fortuna. I was going to say "Isn't she, like, 80 or something?" Sure enough, she turns 79 in October.

Christopher Lee (Count Dooku)
Given the number of things he's been in, do you really need to pick that one as an example?

the man has done like 200 movies. most of them bad, but still, i think it's impossible to have gone through life without accidentally being exposed to him. he's a busybusy bad guy.

Other than LotR and Star Wars, I don't think he's as well known here as he is there.

Um, all those dracula movies? Yeah, I don't think Christopher Lee needs an introduction...although I had forgotten he was in the Star Wars prequels.

I really couldn't have told you anything else he'd been in before I glanced at IMDb. Maybe it's a generational thing ;-)

Okay, I did some looking. He was King Haggard in the original The Last Unicorn. He was the voice of Death in some Terry Pratchett things (I didn't know there were any Terry Pratchett movie/TV things). Some other credits include Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Prince Phillip in Charles & Diana: A Royal Love Story (made for TV), and Police Academy 7: Misson to Moscow. He's also been Dracula and Fu Manchu.
