Fuck it
Standing up to them really took a lot out of me emotionally. I just don't have it in me, at least not today. So, whatever. they "searched" my bag. It was abot the level of search that happens in movie theaters when they're looking for the camera in my bag (and never find it). There are 3 parts of my backpack. I opened the largest one, the guy looked in with a little flashlight, and that was it. All I would have to do would be to hide the explosives in the other parts of the backpack. Or, hell, I talked to someone last night who said he had several grocery bags inside another bag. He pulled one of the grocery bags out, and the guy asked what he had in there. "Groceries." "Oh, okay." And none of the rest of those got searched.

Don't you feel much safer already.

I guess I really was expecting a more thorough search. I feel stupid for thinking that now, though, because it should have been obvious that they wouldn't do thorough searches.

I saw in some article that they said "We're not looking for drugs." I wouldn't be surprised if they've been instructed to "not notice" anything other than explosives/chemical weapons.

The searches are just a sham, a gesture that "we _care_ about security!" that really, would only turn up the most clueless/careless/stupid terrorist or troublemaker.

Was this on the T? IIRC the MBTA folk were quoted in the news as saying that these searches wouldn't be intrusive unless the scanning machines or sniffer-dogs barked at something.

Yes, this was on the T. This is a special search for the Orange Line trains that pass under the Fleet Center during the convention (also for the buses that pass close by the Fleet Center, I think). The "regular" searches are supposedly machines or dogs, unless the machines or dogs are unavailable.

The dogs are busy picketing. They want in on all the contracty goodness.
