I paid a visit to a local optometrist yesterday. (I made the appointment on Monday. So, yes, the timing was a coincidence.) I never thought I would actually have fun at a doctor's office. The doctor is a Jewish version of my father-in-law, if a bit more extroverted around strangers. He explained the reason behind every test and measurement he did, and I got to hear all sorts of stories about all sorts of things. Right out of optometry school he was drafted into World War II, and he's had a really interesting life. It's just him in the office, with his wife running the front desk. She's a pharmacist, so there's in-house expertise on drug interactions for when people have eye diseases and such. And she helped me pick out a new pair of frames. What a pleasant experience.

If anyone is looking for an eye doctor, I would whole-heartedly recommend Dr. Sanford Monsein in Malden.

He mostly fixed my old glasses. He put new nose guards on, and he bent the frames mostly back in shape. They were so bad that he didn't want to risk breaking them by bending them too much, so they're still a little crooked. I'll be getting my new glasses next week. And thanks to my insurance at work, I paid only $50 for everything. Considering I've paid about $8 per month for it for the past 10 months, that's pretty good. Plus hrafn is on the policy, so she will be able to get an exam and contacts out of the deal, too.

I don't think I'll be taking advantage of my dental insurance, though. One good experience with one excellent optometrist is not going to make me like dentists one jot more. Fucking doctors.
