“So, I just finished Vernor Vinge's, <I>A Fire Upon the Deep</I> -- and, well, let's say, "I *almost* finished it". The last two pages were ripped out! Luckily, just the epilogue, so it's not that big of a deal, but, like, y'know, cut off mid-sentence. Dunno if there's, like, a whole nother page, or two whole pages of stuff, or whatever, but AARGH! Thanks, <lj user=bitty>. I tried to go by the the library and get a copy, but they are closèd. So, at some point, I'll read the last page or so of this book. Yeah. That is all.”
This is the very book I chose as my jury-duty reading last month. So if you've been trying to check it out of the Somerville main branch, I'm the reason why you can't get it. ;-) I'm barely a third of the way through, so I'm nowhere near returning it, and I'll probably just eat the 0.05/day fee until I'm done.
Want me to photocopy the last few pages for you?
Incidentally, this is the best Grand-Scale SF I've read since Asimov's Foundation trilogy! Galactic civilizations, transcendental intelligence, life as we DO NOT know it...Excellent stuff!
