Update: Does anyone else think that the results of this poll (so far 10-3 yes) might not accurately reflect America as a whole? It's interesting to think what this says about the people I hang out with (who are atypical in a number of ways).

entirely possible. i mean, i am terribly fond of going to restaurants alone, as well, and i get the impression that's something not a lot of people are comfortable doing.

that's a combination of guilt about eating at all; eating alone in public makes me feel like an Really Unattractive Obese Person; and the cheapness factor.

Going to a movie alone or with a date, I still see the same movie for $n. Going to a restaurant alone means I only get to taste one entree, with date(s) there's the possibility of having at least a taste of several of the menu offerings, and gives me a fuller experience of the restaurant, for the same price.

I don't think I've gone to a (sit-down) restaurant alone, either (or, if I have, it was a one-time, special-circumstance kind of thing).

I've actually recently contemplated both going to a movie alone and going to a restaurant alone. It's kind of new for me that I'm actually contemplating these things. Maybe some day I'll actually do them.

It just occurred to me that the primary reason I have done this (gone to restaurants alone) was due to work-related travel. Unless you count going to places like the Diesel alone for a light snack or something, but that doesn't feel the same as a Restaurant where they serve you a meal . . .

i guess... i just really like food. occasionally it's really nice to be able to concentrate on the food. social interaction can sometimes enhance a culinary experience, but it can also detract.

also, i read a lot, and am almost always happy to read more. i often appreciate the opportunity to read while eating.
