That O'Reilly job is open again. Very tempting. But I actually like where I am. But I think I would really like the O'Reilly job. But I would feel bad leaving my current company. But the O'Reilly job is a chance to move into a non-textbook area of publishing.

Hmm. I think I'm a much stronger candidate now. We'll see how I feel about it in a few days. Thoughts on this matter are welcome.

You can name me as a reference should you apply. (I'm assuming that there are enough people still there who remember and liked me for this to be effective.)

ORA seems to be on the mend, from what my network of spies tell me. I don't have much insight on how nice a place it is to work these days, though... the only friend I have who currently works there does so part-time. It's probably still much more fun than the average workplace, but I'm really wondering if the Pall of Doom that still hung over it as of early 2003 is still there.

Well, it's a good opportunity to freshen up your resume, and unless it's a major hassle for you to do so, I don't see any downside (except for the effort thing--which would likely be a blocker for me) to applying for the job and interviewing if they ask.

This is another "can't hurt to send in your resume and interview" vote. It'll give you a chance to learn more about the job and people there.

Do I need to know math to get your job?

If not Bitty, then Magid could take your job if you left, correct?

Magid wouldn't want my job. She's after something higher level.

The instructor of the OSX Directory Services class I'm in right now reports that he's gotten several feelers from editors over the years asking him to write books about OSX. He always says no. This year he got another such feeler but caught himself when he noticed the From address contained @oreilly.com. He sent back a maybe instead, and is now writing the OSX Panther book.

O'Reilly is an awesome brand.
