Boggle Tournament
I just sent out the invitation. 89 people, including myself. And, as the invite says, feel free to pass it along to anyone I might have missed or anyone I might not know.

Current Mood: boggled

I'm really sorry I can't make it. Sounds like loads of fun!

What are your house rules on plurals, suffixes, etc.?

No house rules on plurals and suffixes. If people want to write plurals as (s), that's fine. No restrictions on endings at all.

Maybe next year. (It's probably safe to assume it will be on Memorial Day weekend again.)

Wow, I'd be so fucked until I got used to it... the rules I grew up with were no simple-s plurals or verb forms, and if you write down PREEN (ED) (ING) you get the one point for PREEN, two additional points for the ED, and three additional points for ING; the root isn't counted more than once. If someone else has PREEN, you still get the additional points for the other forms. (Exceptions can be debated for such cases as FORMER--is it "previous" or "one who forms"?--but we generally err on the side of as few points as possible, because otherwise our first-to-reach-50 games end in three rounds.) So I'd be ticking off suffixes right and left, but completely skipping over PREENS etc., and would also miss things like FORMS because I'd see it as "four-letter word plus suffix" and thus unacceptable in a five-letter-minimum game.

What's the difference between Boggle Deluxe and Big Boggle? I've never encountered the former and hadn't realized there was a different sort of five-row board.

Boggle Deluxe is a newer version of the 5x5 (first there was Big Boggle, then Boggle Master, then Boggle Deluxe). It comes with a little plastic piece that you can put over the board to make it 4x4 once you shake it (although I never have). The cubes are prettier, too. The big difference, however, is that the letter distribution is a bit better, resulting in more words.

Ah, nifty! I shall recommend to rosemom; she likes 4x4 and I like 5x5, so that would be good to have around the next time I visit. *) Thanks for the info.

It's out of print last I checked, but some toy stores sitll carry it (again, last I checked). It would probably be worth calling around. I'm not sure if Funagain has it currently or not.

If you're out here this summer, I'd definitely play some Boggle with you ;-)

Seriously, let me know if you're coming out.

Not coming out as far as Boston this summer[*]. I was thinking Columbus.

Boggle's not really my game, though. I'm not remotely in rosefox's league...

P.S.: * -- Actually, TBH, planning to be in Boston for WorldCon, now that I think of it.

I won't be at Origins or WorldCon, but I'll definitely be in town for WorldCon. As it gets closer, let me know, and maybe we can coordinate.
