Wow, I think both of those are a great idea. I could really use something like Dossier for real life. But I could see other uses too, like organizing character information for a story, or NPC info for a game. With the right interface, something like that could be very useful indeed.

The store independent gift registry is a great idea too. Sure, you'd have to trust people to be honest, but I think that's expected. There really isn't any good way that I can think of to remove the possibility of 'cheating'. It might also be useful though, to allow the giftee to seed the list with gift ideas of things they might like, and to be able to blindly post things they've gotten since starting the registry.

Ooh, I hadn't thought of that. Yeah, that could be cool.

I'd thought of the first one but hadn't though of the second one. Good idea.

It's good to know that I have some potentially useful things to work on if I ever get back to programming things again (besides the useful things I already have in my programming queue).

Yeah, I keep thinking I want to get back into programming for fun, but I just haven't made it yet. My current excuse is that I'm waiting to upgrade to OS X 10.3 and Xcode. We'll see if I really get started after that though.
