Twelfth on the tenth
Went and saw Twelfth Night at the Publick Theatre with a group of people last night. Potluck beforeheand where, for me, the highlight was a shrimp and avocado salad. Shrimp, cut up avocado, cilantro, lemon juice, and I think one or two other ingredients. Really good, definitely something I want to try making.

The play was really good. I was thinking about it, and this summer I am going to see 3 out of the 4 Shakespeare plays that I have been in. Midsummer and Twelfth Night at the Publick Theatre and Macbeth on the Common. Maybe I should try hunting down Taming of the Shrew to make a complete set.

I didn't have my season pass with me (it was in my backpack, which I left at work on Wednesday not knowing if I could bring it to the concert with me, and then it remained at work while I was out sick yesterday), but they just looked it up on a list and let me in, which was very cool.

I got to bed at a reasonable hour last night, no reading, no playing Warlords. I'm looking forward to getting to bed early this weekend. Yes, I'm a party animal.

Re: ingredients

Yeah, I just remembered the pistachios as I was describing it to someone just now. Mmmm. That was really good. And I suppose it could even be done without the cilantro if I serve it for cilantro haters. Maybe substitute a little parsley or something for it.

Re: ingredients

Yes! Shrimp and avocado and pistachios and lemon juice sound delicious (and you know what I think about the other ingredient). Ban cilantro! Bring on the parsley!

I'll tell Carol her efforts were appreciated, and see if she'll part with the recipe!

Recipe from Carol...

1 bag froz. Trader Joe's shrimp (tail off, 21-30?)
3 ripe avacadoes
1/2 cup (maybe less) shelled pistachios
canola oil
fresh cilantro (also @ Trader Joe's, in fact all ingredients can be found @ TJ...gotta love it!)
1/2 lemon
salt (I use Jane's Krazy Salt...yum)

Chop cilantro (about 1/2 bunch if purchased in small plastic container @ TJ). Mix in food processor: cilantro, nuts, juice from 1/2 lemon, canola oil (about 3 TB (?) - not 100% sure), and salt to taste. Mixture s/b pasty but not soupy.

Peel and slice avacadoes into bite size chunks.

Combine in mixing bowl a layer of avacadoes, then some shrimp, then the nut mixture. Fold over gently a few times, then repeat until all ingredients are combined. The gentle folding is key imho.

Refrigerate over night. 2-3 hours is probably enough in a pinch.

Salad is good cold; better at room temp.

Enjoy and let me know if you come up w/any additions deletions. I think this recipe is easily modifiable. For example, I might try a walnut/pesto mixture, and substitute tomatoes for avacadoes next time.
