More birthday swag
I just got a $5 gift certificate to Rebecca's Cafe from the Editorial Advisory Board here at work. There's a Rebecca's in this building, but I've never been to it. I was actually just lamenting the fact that I had packed little food for lunch, since I'd assumed there would be free food around the office from the 2-day managers' meetings. No food today, however. Of course, not that I'm likely to go use this right now. I don't want to take that much time, and, really, I don't feel like sitting in a restaurant.

Hmm. My mom and sister and sister's husband are meeting me for lunch down here on Friday. I was thinking about the Parish Cafe, since I'd heard good things about it. However, could give Rebecca's a try. Anyone have anything to say about Rebecca's?

Rebecca's is overpriced and mediocre, but it's passable food. Cafeteria-style, though, so while it's quick and informal, it's not generally a place I'd take people to lunch.

The Parish Cafe, on the other hand, is really yummy and great for lunch, though admittedly crowded and sometimes a bit loud, especially on Fridays.

Other places I love for lunch around HMCo: Tealuxe, Pho Pasteur, Skipjack's, Legal's (both the one near Park Plaza and the one in the Pru), Bertucci's. There are at least 3 Thai places that are all decent; of those Thai Basil is probably the best but priciest. Stephanie's on Newbury is pretty yummy in an upscale and trendy sort of way; Laurel Bar and Grill has good food and is closer and less trendy, but the waitstaff is snotty. For something really fancy, I'd go to Icarus.

Rebecca's sucks.

yesterday, the free food dodn't appear until after 1pm. be patient.

i like cottonwood, but that's with limited exposure.

parish seems to have a lot of fusion-like food. so bringing family there would depend on their tastes.

Besides the deli spread that showed up after 1, there was a breakfast spread that showed up in the morning, from which I pilfered two cranberry bagels and some cranberry juice.

I'll pipe in and agree that Rebecca's is overpriced, mediocre, cafeteria style. Do you know if there's a Rebecca's location in the building aside from the closet-size one in the Winter Garden? A couple of times I've gone there in the hopes of getting something quick and they basically have had much emptyness where stuff used to be. Must be because I've always wandered in after the morning rush or after the lunch rush.

I've heard good stuff about Parish. (Maybe plan your lunch to start earlyish or latish to avoid too much crowd). I haven't been to the Cottonwood at that location, but I used to go to the one in Porter Square (which isn't there anymore), which I thought was good.

yeah, there's a bigger Rebecca's all the way on the other side of the building past the 500 Boylston entrance, near Skipjack's.

Cottonwood is... okay. mediocre, but in a sort-of-good-if-you're-in-the-mood way. definitely overpriced for dinner, but reasonable for lunch given the Back Bay location.
