Book title
If I ever write a book or article about stupid spelling mistakes people make, I'm going to call it "There is no e in lightning."

I saw a great new word yesterday: thinko. Like typo, except that the error was in your thinking. I like it.

I started writing down words that I don't know, so that I can look them up. Okay, I wrote down one word from the book I started reading this morning. Character & Viewpoint by Orson Scott Card. The word is fillip. I haven't actually looked it up yet. I'm not even supposed to be on here right now, but I just had to vent a little about finding lightening twice in the stuff I'm proofreading when lightning was intended. I told myself I would proofread three lessons out of the thirteen I have to do today before I'd let myself get on LiveJournal. So, no reading posts until then.

Lightening

Lightening is a word, just obviously not the same thing as lightning.... I might choose a different title.

How about It's "Nu-cle-ar" Not "Nu-cu-lar"

That works for me, except that that is pronounciation rather than spelling.

I so hate to say this, but there are dictionaries that - *cringe* - accept both pronunciations. :( Real dictionaries (I want to say Merriam-Webster, but I could be wrong and don't have one on hand to check), not just online collections from various weird sources. That doesn't mean I think it's right, just that some "legitimate" sources accept it. :(

Well, they're just wrong. Wrong I say. Much in the same way that they're not right!

I think the misusers of the word should be struck by an enlightening bolt.

typos, thinkos

Some users of voice recognition software also refer to "speako"s. One example I've seen is "begin" instead of "weekend". These are usually actually errors in recognition, not mis-speakings.
