Well, got the final edit for the sample chapter out for good yesterday. It'll be coming back at the end of the month in the next round. According to the schedule, I only have two days to look at it. I don't know if that's going to be enough time, especially since, if it stays on schedule with everyone else who has it before me, the first day I have it is a Friday, and my supervisor isn't in on Fridays, and I'll be wanting to ask her questions about it. There are other people to ask, but she's really the one to be making the decisions. Oh well, most likely it won't be on schedule when it comes to me.

For now, I'm working on an outline for another chapter. This one is on geometry, and I've really gotten to like geometry since I took it when I went back to school. I hated it in high school because it was all about doing proofs, and doing them the way we were told to do them. I now see geometry as a wonderful way to explore axiomatic systems. Would write more about it, but I'm taking off soon.

i also like geometry much more now. i started to like it more while (student) teaching it. for some reason it finally got into my brain that the reason we spent most of the year on the (sometimes less than thrilling) properties of triangles is that they're the simplest plane figures.

i used to think of it as the year i spent proving things that were always proveable, and therefore a waste of everyone's time. ok, there were a few interesting/useful bits in there, but mostly what i remember is deadly 2-column proofs.
