That's one big sundae . . .
Something one of my co-workers wrote (the one who didn't write any questions that involved art):
You want to order an ice cream sundae with one flavor of ice cream, one kind sauce, and one topping. The flavors are vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, the sauces are chocolate, butterscotch, and marshmallow, and the toppings are nuts, sprinkles, and pineapples. How many different sundaes are possible?

"Yeah, I'd like a vanilla sundae with chocolate sauce and two . . . no, you'd better make it three pineapples."

Lots of food posts today... you hungry? Anyway, I think that your friend needs to go back to elementary school for a year or so. At least he's reliable: he's good at misunderstanding, AND he writes in a way that's easy to misinterpret. What kind of fun question is that, anyway? I'd rather find out what kind of toppings everyone wants, not how many combinations one can come up with.

I was hungry, and then I ate my vending-machine bounty. Did you that you can trade metal for something edible?!? It's amazing!!

And, unfortunately, the question has to be about how many combinations there are, since it's a lesson about using tree diagrams to count the number of combinations. At least for this chapter the questions are all written, and all I have to do is the art. Did I mention that I hate writing questions?

that's okay; the students hate answering them.
