In a state like Massachusetts, where the primary is open, what is a reason someone would enroll in a particular party? Do the national parties allocate money based on enrollment status in that state? Is there some other benefit besides declaring that you prefer one particular party?
At 5:45 PM, I put ballot #957 into the machine in Ward 5, Precinct 2 in Newton. There were a few other things on the ballot, but I only voted in the presidential primary. I'm unenrolled, but I voted in the Democratic primary for my second choice, since my first choice dropped out of the race last week (it was a little sad to see his name on the ballot). I'm curious to see what happens.
