Since we last left our hero

Well, I had dinner (hrafn made a nice thing with chicken and rice), and then hrafn and I split up the books. It was a lot easier than I thought it might be. She's going to be taking one of the big bookshelves and the small one in her room, which should be enough for all of her books. Once I get the bookshelves in my room cleaned off more, I should be able to fit all of my books on that and the one downstairs, possibly even leaving some room on the one downstairs and the smaller one in the upstairs hallway for a potential housemate. In the middle of that my dad called, so I talked to him for a while. I ended up going to bed at 10. Woke up at 12. Woke up at 2 and was up for a while thinking about housemate stuff. Not exactly worrying about it, but going through a lot of it in my mind. I eventually fell asleep at some point and woke up at 6:30.

Three northbound trains stopped at Sullivan this morning before the first southbound train arrived. Delays again. I didn't manage to get on that train, but I later found out that hrafn did (we get on at different places on the train because we get off at different stops, where it's better to be in different places on the train). I ended up taking the next northbound train, which only went one stop. Then it went out of service. But they just turned it around there, so I ended up riding that same train southbound. So, I probably got on the same train I would have had I waited at Sullivan, but I didn't have to wait in the cold.

On the train, I started Thomas Gray, Philospher Cat. I (re)discovered it while splitting up the books. It's a book I got from magid quite a while ago, either for my birthday or for last Christmas. It's a fairly short novel, so it probably won't be too long before I'm picking out another nonfiction book to read. Reading this book makes me wish I had a better education, though, since it makes references to lots of different things about which I know very little. I also wish I knew Latin. Still, it's an enjoyable book so far.

Working more on the not-my=project today. Some more work came in late yesterday for my project, but I talked to my supervisor, and she agreed that I should work on the not-my-project for the next couple of days, since it's fairly urgent, and we in editorial are having no problems keeping up with what's being given to us by electronic production. I was having a few problems at the end of the day yesterday with Equation Editor, but I'm hoping that it was just a memory thing, and that it will be fine with a fresh reboot. Time to see, I guess.

Equation Editor fuckupedness

So I did some experimenting. Because, it seemed that just these two sets of equations that I was trying to enter just weren't showing up. When I'd save the equation, it would just show up as a blank box of the appropriate size. When I double-clicked on it to edit it, it would be there in the Equation Editor window, but it's like, in the Word document, it had its text white or something. And this was for 2 out of the 10 equations, and just those 2. No matter where in the document I put them. So I took the equation, changed one character, and it was fine. Something really bizarre is going on, and I have no idea why. So, I was able to just put two of the lines of equations (each bit was three lines of equations) in Equation Editor, and then last line just in regular text, since it doesn't have anything that requires Equation Editor. Someone is going to be cursing me down the line, I'm sure, but I'm just stumped as to why it wasn't working.

Slow

I'm working slowly. Turns out that the person who was originally working on these was told not to worry about the art for these questions, since someone else would be doing the art. Well, it turns out that whoever else was going to be doing the art couldn't, for whatever reason, so the person is now responsible for the art. She started doing some, and the supervisor guy pulled two of us onto this project to do some art.

Well, as it turns out, the person thought that not doing the art meant not doing any of the questions that had art in them. So, there are whole lessons and even chapters where she wrote nothing, since they involved art. So, I get to write questions _and_ draw art, and I really don't like writing questions. Because of this, I'm going slow.

I have work on my other project to do. I would much rather do that than this. I hope to at least get some of this done today, then be able to work on my stuff next week. More of my stuff arrived today, too, so it might make sense to start working on it sooner rather than later.

That's one big sundae . . .

Something one of my co-workers wrote (the one who didn't write any questions that involved art):
You want to order an ice cream sundae with one flavor of ice cream, one kind sauce, and one topping. The flavors are vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, the sauces are chocolate, butterscotch, and marshmallow, and the toppings are nuts, sprinkles, and pineapples. How many different sundaes are possible?

"Yeah, I'd like a vanilla sundae with chocolate sauce and two . . . no, you'd better make it three pineapples."
