(Probably final) userpic script

So, with 15,000 user names gotten, I decided to go ahead and revise my userpic script. It now grabs a user name from the file instead of having to load up a random page and extract the user from there. Also, it now picks a random userpic from the user's page instead of just grabbing the first one on the page.

I will continue to add more user names to my list, so the program should only be getting better. Whee.

Someone just emailed me:
Set a man by a fire and he'll stay warm for one night; set a man on fire
and he'll be warm the rest of his life.

That reminds me of a story a friend once told me. His mother teaches third grade. A studedent in the class was from Russia. The kids were doing some math homework. The Russian kid asked my friend's mom to tell him the answer. She said that she would show him how to do it but not tell him the answer. He got upset. She said "Haven't you ever heard, 'Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he can feed himself for the rest of his life.'?" And the kid said "No. But in my country, we have a saying. 'Give a man a fish, and he eats dinner. Teach a man to fish, and he sits in a boat all day and gets drunk.'"

Work stuff

So, it looks like, to fix the problems, we're going to be pulling the files off of the server to work on them, which really defeats the whole point of using this stupid plugin for InDesign and InCopy so that the files can be worked on at the same time by both Production and Editorial. So, whatever. It looks like it's fixed now, so we'll see how it goes starting on Monday when I do my first full chapter with the new system.

And, after being told at 2:00 that we could go home any time we wanted, my ride's work didn't get out early (even though they put in a call to the dean's office . . . they just never heard back), so I got to sit here after a lot of the office had already left. Of course, it was good to get the stuff figured out, and that woudn't have happened until probably Tuesday, since there were several rounds of back and forth with the head Production guy, and he works from home on Mondays.

Keeping up this housing situation is going to take some work. I wonder if it would be worth the expense to maintain separate residences now. Blah, probably not.

Verizon DSL

Installed and seems to be working just fine. I guess we should probably cancel AT&T now. I don't really feel like doing it just now, though. And they're probably closed, anyway.
