Cool email of the weekend

Well, okay, I have to say the email from O'Reilly was the cool email from the weekend, but that was actually sent during the workday on Friday, so I'm going to mention another email.

I got an email from an 8th grader at a Montessori school in New York. He thanked me for Zendobun, and he told me that he played it with his class of 9 people. He told me what rules they used (the first one was the same as the first email game, "contains exactly two three-letter words. The second one was, I think, "does not contain a four-letter word"), and said that they were able to play two games in 35 minutes. I've always wanted to play the game in real-time instead of over email, so I think I might try to convince some people to play, maybe at the next Looney Night, maybe at Origins.

It looks like he and his class are going to play some more, and he said that this will likely be something that is passed along in that school for years. It was very neat to hear about, and to get an unsolicited email from someone I dont know thanking me for doing something that I thought was neat. Whee. I think I may have to spend some time updating the Zendobun page, then, and maybe get another game going over email. The person who emailed me joined the Zendobun list, too, so that's pretty cool.

For no apparent reason, I think I smell bacon. I'm in my cubicle. the only place there is likely bacon in the building is in the cafeteria, which is nowhere near here. Sometimes thinking about something will make me think I can smell it, so I know it's possible for me to "smell" things that aren't really there. But I wasn't thinking about it at all, so it's kind of weird.

I am struck by the thought that I haven't had any bacon in a while. The subject of a BLT came up this weekend. Yum. Of course, I heard that people who don't eat bacon will do a PLT (pastrami). That sounds like it could be fine, too, but there really is nothing like hot, fresh bacon combined with mayo, tomato, and lettuce on bread. Yum. Maybe I should hunt down some turkey bacon or something and try to make a kosher BLT.

So my interview at O'Reilly is officially schedule for 10:00 on Thursday. And right after the interview, I leave for a 3-day camping trip.

Still have heard nothing from the people at work about steps being taken to renew my contract for another year. I know the offer is going to be made, but I also know that they are going to wait until the last minute to do it. The spiteful part of me is telling me to wait until they make the offer, then reject it. The part of me with better sense is planning on giving them two weeks, which is a week from today!

Picked up what has become my usual salad from the Stop and Shop salad bar. Romaine lettuce, crab meat (well, probably krab), a boiled egg, and dressing. I tried a mandarin orange dressing today, and it was pretty good. Although I think I prefer a creamier dressing.
