Food
I wonder how much of my food I could get for free. With the bounty at work and the bounty at parties, I could probably get away with spending less on food. Hell, there are a lot more parties that I could go to than I do. If money really does become that tight, I could just scrounge food instead of having to get a roommate. Not that I'd actually do that, but it's an amusing thought.

Not only parties

Gallery openings usually have food, not to mention Saturday there's usually snacks after services at pretty much every synagogue/minyan I've ever attended.

Hey, yeah, I could just convert to Judaism, and I'd be pretty sure of getting fed Friday nights and Saturday afternoons. And, as long as I can stay within an eruv, I could bring a sack to stuff snacks in and travel from shul to shul, collecting snacks to keep me fed until the following Friday.

No one checks to see if you're Jewish at the door...

Yeah, but God knows, and this ends up being directly deducted from your after life benefits. I should know - I've already burned through my forty virgins benefit, and now I'm eating through my camel allotment. I just grabbed one of those after life savings books the other day... I really should have started being more pious when I was 25 - it remarkable how much you can build up if you start then.

I hadn't realized there *was* a camel allotment. And as long as you're up on the details, what do women get instead of the virgin brides? (Or do they also, and heteros are out of luck?)

Of course, the question of whether one's benefits are reduced if one doesn't make any false claims is a different matter.

There never seems to be a big mystique about men's virginity the way there is about women's.

yeah, that's how i survived for a lot of last spring when the temp work was just starting up again. if i could manage enough free food at work, i wouldn't have to go grocery shopping. if i didn't go grocery shopping, i didn't spend money. if i didn't spend money, the checks couldn't bounce.

i had a lot of bagels under that philosophy.

now, there's free oatmeal at work. so i breakfast here.

Or you could try auctioning money to raise money...

Dunno how well it work in the long term.

Having parties (to which other people bring food)can work that way too. I've probably got two or more week's worth of lunches just from what my sister brought and left here yesterday!

Though I suspect you do have to prime the pump a bit...
