Story reading
Yes, I know there is some sort of regular story reading that goes on somewhere locally, but I think I want to do my own. If I held one something like once a month, are there particular nights that are better for anyone who might be interested?

Mondays are out. Other than that, I don't really have any every-week commitments on particular days.

What sort of thing do I have in mind? People gather to read and listen to stories. It is okay to just come to listen. I imagine something like 7-10, so there is enough time for a good number of people to read relatively short pieces (under 1/2 hour, I imagine). I imagine it would end earlier if few enough people showed up who wanted to read. Possibly light snacks if people wanted to bring something, but the focus would really be on reading.

I'm definitely interested in this. Monday is also my only day of week where I have a weekly commitment. Most other days would work okay once a month (except for third Wednesdays). I'd also prefer that if Thursday were the chosen day it not be the 2nd or 3rd Thursday of the month.

Just wanted to express an interest in this, though I can't say exactly when I could make it, since there aren't any days when I am explicitly committed every week. DD and I have talked about this sort of thing before, so I know he is interested as well.

I'm definitely interested too, and more insterested in a new thing than the existing story reading event. Monthly is about right for me. Fridays are bad.

Couldn't tell from context whether you meant 7-10pm or 7-10 people.

Good coincidence -- just recently I've been saying I'd like a venue to practice reading things out loud. I find myself reading articles or quotes to people for fun fairly often, and sometimes have a very different, purring quality to my voice that I'd like to explore.

Suggestion: query your participants what kinds of story they're interested in hearing, so that readers may incorporate that information in their choices of what to read (it would certainly affect my own choices).

Kinds of story I'd particularly like to hear:
Mythological (ancient or modern)

Re: Cool!

Great suggestion.

And I meant 7-10 pm. I don't think I want to put any limit on the number of people, since, really, I don't think it will draw that many people each time. I think 6 would be a comfortable number with the current setup, but I could definitely change the setup if more people happened to show up.

I'd be interested. Fridays wouldn't work for me (at your house, anyway. Want a different venue sometimes?). Other nights are possible.

I also like Mattlistener's idea for having a theme sometimes.
