Fucking cars
Flat tire today. Fucking car. For the first time, I'm considering not owning a car. I don't think it would be that bad, really. Yes, it's convenient to have a car, but I think I could learn to live without one. Get to learn the bus routes, all that stuff.

I don't know. I would feel so trapped, not having a car that I could just take off in on a moment's notice, going anywhere I wanted. And, of course, I'd have to find a place to put all of the crap that is currently in my car.

It's a myth that you're free, and only free if you have a car. Think traffic snarl-up.

Think of all the things you could do with the money you'd save :-)

I found while I was in London that I didn't particularily miss my car (for transportation purposes, at least - I did rather miss it for the privacy in transit as well as the storage space). Of course, if you're trying to go anywhere *outside* the city, it could be a bit difficult... ;-)

Alternatives to Car Ownership!

Zipcar!!!! Matt & I have been members since the beginning and we both love it. The only times we ever really need a car are to go grocery shopping or a party or something like that, and we only ever need it for a couple of hours, so it works really well for us. I'm not sure how many cars they have in your neck of the woods, but there are tons in Somerville. We have 5 or 6 that are within a 5-10 minute walk from us.

I do know what you mean about feeling trapped not having a car though. I grew up in Michigan where ther is almost no public transit, so if you don't have a car, life really sucks. This is part of why I left Michigan. I always felt really trapped while living there, cause I never had my own car. It's surprising to me that I feel completely free not owning a car now. It's strange, but I love not having one. Maybe I'm just rebelling from that car-centered mentality, who knows...

Anyways, sorry you had a flat. I send you good car-karma :)

Re: Alternatives to Car Ownership!

The closest Zipcar to Everett is in Charlestown. Oh well.
