Monthly Book Club at the Museum of Science
http://www.mos.org/doc/1377
Feeling inquisitive? Looking for good conversation? Love a great book? Then the Book Club for the Curious could be just the thing for you. This Fall, the Museum of Science launched a book club especially for those who are interested in science and technology and how it impacts our society. The book club is free and open to the public.
They have the next three books listed.

I still hate bookclubs, but I may use their site as a to-read list ;)

I'm curious. Why do you hate book clubs?

I've only been involved in one (quite informal), and I admit there were a number of things I didn't like about it.

Primarily my attention span can't cope. This causes a lot of annoyances for me that makes any book club painfully horrible.
To a large extent, there is also the lack of control over the other members. I have, in all my vast 30-year experience (*rolls eyes*) only ever been to one book discussion that had the right combination of people to work. (And that group wasn't like that any other months; just that one time.) IMO, of course.
While trying to expand my horizons, I also don't want to be stuck reading books I have zero interest in, or am unable to get into/appreciate at that time. (As hfnuala and I have discussed before, there are a lot of books we were forced to read in [high] school that we totally hated, yet would appreciate/enjoy much more now.)

But mostly, it's the format. I enjoy discussing books with one or two people, or on LJ/USENET, etc., but in a group it just annoys the fuck out of me.

I'm curious to hear what the things you didn't like were. I'll probably attempt to start a book club again in the future, and it would be constructive to know what those who participated in my first attempt liked and disliked about it. If you'd rather answer in e-mail than here, that's cool. Thanks.

That's nothing, the pub we went to the other day had a monthly cheese club.
